Directions: The Village of Paynton is located on the TransCanada Yellowhead Highway, 75 kms east of the City of Lloydminster.
Paynton was originally settled by three retired constables of the North West Mounted Police in 1888. They were followed by the Barr Colonists and a few hundred other settlers. In 1905, a Village was formed.
Present-day Paynton is home to approximately 172 people. Agriculture is still a dominant industry, with oil and gas opportunities quickly increasing in the area.
You’ll find a Credit Union, Post Office, library and Village Office serving the needs of residents. There is also senior housing, and a service station with store nearby. Kids in Paynton are bussed to school in nearby Maidstone.
Paynton was home to well known Canadian steer wrestling champion Todd Boggust. Boggust passed away in 2001; he had qualified for the National Finals Rodeo five times.
Paynton has easy access to the Northern Lakes. The Paynton ferry is available from spring through fall to transport people across the North Saskatchewan River. There are excellent hunting and fishing locations in this area.
